Nvidia news: chips, innovations and all-time highs

The Californian tech giant has brought a fresh wind to the tech world with new products and projects that will interest not only gamers, but also artificial intelligence (AI) developers and autonomous technology lovers. At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, unveiled a new line of GeForce chips that push the boundaries of the gaming experience to a new level. In addition, it unveiled ambitious projects in AI, autonomous driving and robotics, reaffirming its leadership position in the tech world.

About the company

With over 30 years of history, Nvidia has made a significant impact on the technology landscape, especially in gaming. Originally known for its groundbreaking graphics cards, NVIDIA has revolutionized gaming graphics, delivering exceptional visual experiences and setting industry standards. Graphics processing units (GPUs) GeForce have become synonymous with high-performance gaming, with many advanced features and AI-powered graphics. Its influence has extended far beyond gaming. Its technology and software are now an integral part of sectors such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and autonomous vehicles, with its products preferred in healthcare, financial and other applications. Its roots and continued innovation in the gaming industry remain central to its identity, accounting for approximately 80% of its business.[1]

New products will especially delight gamers

At CES, held in early January, the company revealed its latest innovation in the gaming sector, the GeForce RTX 50 series chips. Designed for desktops and laptops, the new products are built on the Blackwell architecture, which also powers the high-end AI-powered processors used in data centres. The RTX chips will give gamers stunning graphics and smoother gameplay, as well as the ability to integrate AI into games or run large language models from companies such as Meta. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huag, highlighted the performance offered, but at a fraction of the price compared to the previous RTX 4090 series. Pricing for the new line of chips starts at USD549, making high-end gaming technology more accessible to a wider audience, with the most expensive and most powerful one available for almost USD2,000, The first chips should be available at the end of January.[2] In addition to desktops, notebooks equipped with these chips will be released in March, promising longer battery life and higher performance, making them ideal for on-the-go gaming and demanding tasks. They will be priced between USD1,300 and nearly USD3,000.[3][4]

Democratising AI, robotics and autonomous driving

Huang also presented other ambitious projects at the event. One of them is Project Digits, in which an AI supercomputer will be made available. However, this will only be available to a more qualified audience such as data researchers and developers. The USD3,000 device is equipped with a Grace Blackwell superchip that combines both central processing and graphics capabilities to work with large language models that conventional computers struggle with. Another project that Nvidia is pushing the boundaries of AI integration not only in gaming and computing, but also in real-world applications. It is Nvidia Cosmos. The technology is aimed at improving systems in autonomous vehicles and robotics. Data will be fed into the app by text instruction, which will generate a video, similar to how ChatGPT, for example, works.  The outputs are then used to virtually train models to navigate complex real-world environments, allowing automakers and developers to avoid costly and time-consuming tests. Nvidia's approach essentially makes AI smarter and more adaptable in industries that rely on real-time decision making. The giant has also announced a partnership with Uber to develop autonomous driving technology and to make it safer, using a huge amount of data from Uber's daily rides. In addition, in collaboration with Japanese automaker Toyota, they will look to integrate the Californian company's systems into Toyota cars. In robotics, it has launched the Mega Omniverse Blueprint tool, which will allow companies to test and train robots in a virtual environment before using them in real life.[5][6][7]

Agents to help with automation

The company's advances are also evidenced by its "artificial intelligence agents". Intelligent systems are tasked with automating processes that are the domain of human workers, making research or customer service, for example, more efficient. At CES 2025, Nvidia unveiled AI Blueprints, a tool that helps businesses create such agents. These "knowledge robots," as Huang called them, can quickly analyse lots of data, pull useful information from videos and documents, and act on it. Nvidia is working with other tech companies to make sure these tools are easy for businesses to use.[8]

Shares at a new record

Thanks to this news, Nvidia shares have reached an all-time high, reflecting investor confidence in the company's future. They reached USD151.86 on Monday, January 6, 2025, but later fell slightly to just under USD150. The potential is evidenced by the 186% increase in the stock's value over 1 year, while from a 5-year perspective it is up over 2,300%.* According to Companiesmarketcap.com, Nvidia's market value as of January 7, 2025 was USD3.6 trillion, ranking it as the 2nd most valuable company in the world, just behind Apple. *

Conclusion

Nvidia is constantly innovating and delivering new capabilities that push the boundaries of what is possible in the gaming industry and other technology sectors. From new chips for gamers to AI agents and autonomous vehicles, the company is proving it has the vision and capabilities to shape the future. With each step, it is making technology more accessible and useful to a wide range of users, improving everyday life and work in a variety of fields.
